New windows and doors for a new look

Doors and windows can be made in many different timbers and finishes to suit customers’ requirements. Doors are usually of the planked and batten type, and have vertical planks nailed into horizontal battens, which originate from between the 15th century and the modern day – but anything can discussed. They are normally made using a variety of traditional cut and decorative nails to hold the door
together in a variety of patterns. They can also have decorative panels and cover strips as well as moulded or beaded boards.

There are too many to list as certain areas have different designs and plank size according to the century in which they were made. Doors can also be made to a historical accuracy but this can sometimes be difficult due to the number of different designs and the variety. Door cases and frames can also be made to complement the doors. These can also vary from area to area and date but can be moulded, beaded carved etc, with a variety of chamfers and stops.

Below is a short list of the types that we make:

  • Ledged and braced
  • Ledged
  • Panelled
  • Framed ledged and braced
  • Framed and glazed
  • A large selection of extras is available to complement the doors:

  • Moulded fillets
  • Cover strips
  • Selection of cut, decorative nails
  • Beaded boards
  • Door furniture
  • Lock cases
  • Wooden latches, handles and more

Windows are generally of the earlier type being mullioned and transomed to make oriel, flanked and bow windows as well as cross windows etc. Some windows can be made to take double glazed units but generally hold single glazed units and in some cases have no glass at all. Glass can be held in using beading or puttied in place.

Mullions and transoms glazing bars can be moulded, beaded etc but this also varies according to the area. Casements can be made in timber or metal with a wide variety of ironwork. Shutters can be made to suit windows. 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th century to modern day.

    14 ft Oak Dining Table

We have just moved into an open plan house, we needed a new dining table to fill a large space. I contacted Oliver to give me a quote. He came to discuss our requirments and time scale (we wanted it for Christmas). Oliver involved us along the way, consulting us on fine details and inviting us to his work shop to view 14 ft piece of oak timber he used to make our table.
The result is AMAZING! We are now the proud owners of a magnificant piece of bespoke furniture. Everyone who has seen it has been super impressed with our stunning table. Oliver is truly a skilled craftsman, passionate about his work. We cannot recommend hiim highly enough – we are absolutley delighted with his creation. Thank you Oliver! Jim and Jackie Orrock

    Bespoke work, excellent service.

Very pleased with the quality of the joinery from someone who seemed very sympathetic to the materials he used and met our brief very well. We would not hesitate to have further work done and would highly recommend Heart of Oak.

    DELIGHTED

We needed to replace a rotting porch with one that fitted the style of our home.. It surpassed our expectations. Top class materials. Well sourced yellow bricks. The carpentry and the walls were of a very high quality. Additionally we asked for Victorian style floor tiling in the porch running through the hall. Very happy with the result. we have since asked the builder to replace the paths around the property. The builder will sit and listen to your requirements and give very helpful hints and tips. He is an expert and we have gained from his expertise. VERY HAPPY and will use again for our future projects.

    Excellent joiner and carpenter.
